The voyage, from November 17 to November 29, 2024, went from Palma via Cadiz to Lisbon and back via Lanzarote, Malaga, Valencia to Palma. Our task was to subject all 460 CLIPPER hammocks in the AIDAdiva's balcony cabins to a safety check and intensive cleaning. We have been working as hammock experts on cruise ships since 2009 and are familiar with the special conditions on board.
The four-person team boarded in Palma with a lot of luggage, accompanied by 12 large bags, 3 boxes, 1 work table, 1 tool case, 4 personal suitcases, 1 aluminum case with a computer, camera, tools, as well as backpacks and hand luggage.
For the intensive cleaning of the hammocks, we used the wet rooms previously used for diving equipment. There, we removed old ropes, tied new ones, and performed final checks.
The workload included unhooking all 460 CLIPPERs, removing 920 old ropes and hammock ropes, knotting 920 new ones, thoroughly cleaning 460 CLIPPERs, knotting new ropes, and rehanging everything. This was followed by seating/reclining tests, adjustments, and documentation.
During the trip, the team went through the cabins and onto the balconies with a key runner from housekeeping. By the end of the trip, everything was perfectly done.
The result: The CLIPPER hammocks have been hanging in the balcony cabins of the AIDAdiva since 2015. Despite extreme exposure to sun/UV, wind, rain, significant temperature fluctuations, and passenger use, they are in excellent technical and visual condition. Around 90% were like new, the others were still perfectly acceptable and ready for use. Only a few had to be replaced due to burn holes, ship paint, or nail polish stains.
