The endurance test: 1,000 CRAZYCHAIR hammocks tested in continuous use.

On the AIDAdiva (November 2024) and the AIDAblu (April 2025), we carried out an extraordinary long-term "Safety Check & Deep Cleaning" project – directly on the CLIPPER hammocks hanging there.

During the ongoing cruises – on site and at sea – our team individually inspected, cleaned and documented over 1,000 CLIPPER hammocks.

The situation:

• Daily use by almost weekly changing cruise passengers

• constant sun and UV radiation & salty sea air

• constant weather influences & temperature changes – 365 days a year

The results on AIDAdiva & AIDAblu

After 10 years of continuous use, all 1,000 CLIPPER hammocks were on board:

• technically absolutely flawless

• without material defects – neither in the fabric, yarn, webbing or shackles

• safety tested & stable

• Amazingly colorfast – even after years in sun and salt air

Only a few hammocks were replaced – not because of wear and tear, but because of cigarette burns, spilled nail polish or stubborn paint stains (e.g. ship paint = picture below / cleaned CLIPPER = picture right).

The best thing about it:

After cleaning, many of the CLIPPERs were barely distinguishable from new (photo below left). The refurbished CLIPPERs will now be able to cruise and pamper passengers for another five years.

What we haven’t solved yet?

While all our hammocks are easy to care for and can be quickly cleaned with a little water and maybe a brush, we still need to work on the self-cleaning hammock—maybe it'll work someday. 😉
